A Photo History of "The Pond"
"This pond will greatly enhance the ability to make
snow since the colder the water, the more conducive to
snowmaking."

"Pond
construction for the snow making projected started today at
Lapham Peak. A pre-construction meeting was held with
Waukesha County and Herr Environmental, the contractor for
the project. Pond construction commenced immediately after
final approval from Waukesha County was given. Herr plans
to have the digging and rough grading finished in about two
weeks. The final grading and seeding will be done in the
spring of 2007."

2006)
Pond construction started on
Monday morning (November 13th) following a quick
preconstruction meeting and an even quicker "ground
breaking ceremony". In the photo with the gold
shovels are L to R: Leif Hauge, Waukesha
County; John McCarthy, our pond designer; John Lupo,
Friends of Lapham Peak; Ed Muzik, LP property manager;
Richard Herr, Herr Corporations; Lenny Soto, Herr
Corporations.
But first a retaining area had
to be built.
The heavy equipment moves
in.
Most of the pond will be filled
by seepage.
Update
November 21, 2006.
"The
pond construction is on schedule thanks to the good
weather. Bob Misslich spoke with Lenny Soto, the backhoe
operator, and was told that the pond is about 30% completed
at this time. Bob took the following pictures today. Have a
happy Thanksgiving everyone."

November
30, 2006. The pond is almost
completed. We got lucky and got an early dump of snow.
But, we're on schedule to make snow from the pond by
December 11. (Photo by John Lupo.)
November 30,
2006. The
pump for the pond has arrived so, hopefully, we'll be able
to make enough artificial snow starting on December 11th to
keep skiing through New Year's.
December 7,
2006. "The
pond construction is almost completed and should be
finished on Friday, December 8th. The water pump was
delivered earlier this week and the installation will also
be done by Herr Construction. Piping will be installed in a
trench which will carry water from the pond to the new pump
house location. Once completed, the water system will be
ready to start pumping water to the snow guns."

December 31,
2006. "2006
has drawn to a close with the completion of two more
components of the pond system. The wet well and connector
pipe were installed. The concrete pad was poured
for the new pump house location and the wires were pulled
for the electrical service. The pump house will be moved to
this pad after the January 1 and installation of the
pump will begin. The warm weather has helped to keep
construction on schedule but it has also cut into the
skiing. Don't give up, there is a lot of winter left. Happy
New Year everyone." (John Lupo)
